Where the colour comes from

Each colour is measured, not chosen: the block's textures are read out of the client jar, transparent pixels are dropped, the rest are quantised to four bits per channel and the largest group is the dominant colour. It is converted to HSL to pick the family — hue first, with saturation and lightness deciding white, grey, black and brown, since brown is a dark or muted red, orange or yellow rather than a hue of its own.

12 of these ship a grey texture that the game multiplies by a biome colour at render time, so they are measured with the plains tint the renders use and filed by the colour you actually see: Short Grass, Dark Oak Leaves, Sugar Cane, Large Fern and others. In another biome they would be a different shade.

7 of these are tinted too, but with a colour the game uses in every biome rather than a biome one: Melon Stem, Lily Pad, Spruce Leaves, Attached Melon Stem and others. The measured colour is the texture multiplied by that fixed value.

One state per block, the resting one the inventory shows, and one render each at fit=block so a torch and a full cube are drawn at the same scale. Every block here links to its own page, where the same colour is listed next to the textures it came from.
